"For every success, there's 99 failures that just didn't work out."

"So in Hollywood, I felt like everything was so commercial and I really wanted to be an artist like my mom. I wanted to do my own projects."

"The cross between technology and entertainment is where I made my career."

"A lot of start up founders, myself included, have trouble accepting that what they chose to do wasn't the right thing."

"We are masters at self-delusion."

"There are many areas where you can innovate that don't require any technology."

"Different entrepreneurs need to look at their strengths and innovate in different ways."

"Look at what you're good at."

"Basically, the media, if you study it, it's about entertainment. It's about grabbing people's attention."

"Nobody makes a market!"

"You can compete with any of the big players."

"One of the most interesting things, is that when people are in a business a long time, they stop seeing the business through fresh eyes."

"A customer can't always tell you what they want because a lot of times they don't know what they want."

"Work back from the outcome."

"Create more value for your customers."

"A single technology can actually influence every single business on the planet."

"It doesn't hurt to be paying attention to the latest technology in experimenting with how it can impact your business."

"But sometimes when you limit it, you actually miss an opportunity."

"A big part of innovation, which I put in the book is actually tapping those passions. Tapping them intelligibly."

"As an innovator, you have to think of yourself as a passionate explorer."

"More entrepreneurs fail from trying too hard to make something work than from trying many different things."

"But I learned that my own passions can be my own worst enemy."

"If I hadn't moved on, I wouldn't be where I am today."

"I had to rewrite that script in my head and say I'm not a failure because I failed. I'm somebody who tried something new and different, and took a risk and it didn't work out. That's what I am."

"I'm a practical guy at heart."
